"It is impossible to understand their minds as it is to see the deep blue in a shallow pond."

—Mage Zltoc of Tlax regarding the Tileans[1a]

Zltoc of Tlax is a Slann mage-priest of the ruined temple-city of Tlax.[1a]

In 1492 IC Zltoc was dispatched by Lord Xtli to meet with the Tilean explorer, Marco Colombo, during his voyage to Lustria.[1a]

The Lizardmen thought that the Tileans were like the Bretonnian barbarians who had earlier appeared in the vicinity of the temple-city of Huatl at the equinox of Tlac-Ipec several score cycles of the sun before that time. They thought they might speak the same tongue so Mage Zltoc brought with him the Skink scribe Huinipachutli, who knew many words of the Bretonnian tongue.[1a]

Sometime later, during the assault on the city of Tlax by a Dark Elf army, Zltoc took command of the Lizardmen defenders because Lord Xtli was too deep in thought to be disturbed. After a bloody massacre of the Dark Elves, the Lizardmen managed to win the battle and sent the Tileans after the fleeing Druchii who had stolen some important artefacts.[1a]

Canon Conflict[]

The battle between the Dark Elves and the Lizardmen changes location depending on the source. Warhammer Armies: Lizardmen (5th Edition) states that the battle unfolded in Tlax,[1a] while Warhammer Armies: Lizardmen (7th Edition) indicates that it occurred at Tlaxtlan.[2a] It is important to note that the 5th Edition army book presents the story from the point of view of Marco Colombo, who has misunderstood several Lizardmen names in his diary.[1a]
