A pair of floating wizard's towers unleashing a torrent of magic upon the battlefield.
A wizard's tower is the name given to any residence of a wizard of the Imperial Colleges of Magic, whether it is an actual tower or not. Most such edifices are placed in remote, out-of-the-way places where the wizard may pursue their magical experimentations in peace.
Wizards come in all sizes and shapes and funnily enough, so do their dwellings. After the Great War Against Chaos, the victorious Emperor Magnus the Pious lifted the ban on the practice of wizardry and founded the Imperial Colleges of Magic in Altdorf. While graduate Battle Wizards tend to settle in all corners of the Empire following their varsity years, they live secluded lives as magic-users and are mostly shunned by the ignorant common folk. As such, they choose to occupy the abandoned follies and towers scattered throughout the land, where they can conduct their magical experiments in peace.[1a]
These famed constructions do not necessarily need to be an actual tower, as different schools of wizardry are attracted to different types of terrain, and construct their dwellings in different ways. A Celestial Wizard is likely to dwell in a tall tower in the mountains, while a Jade Wizard prefers a verdant glade deep within the forest. Many wizards prefer secluded locations away from mundane folk and the trivia of their everyday lives. Here they can get on with diligent magical research unhindered by the powers that be, and even the authorities of their own college.[2a]
Although this is a reasonable aspiration, there might be a more nefarious reason behind their chosen isolation. Some wizards choose this path to quietly follow the Dark Gods, or research methods of wielding proscribed power. These often pose with the trappings of more legitimate magical traditions to help keep them from the suspicion of those who do stumble upon their dwelling.[2a]
