The West Mark was an Imperial province established by Emperor Sigismund II, known as Sigismund the Conqueror, during his reign sometime between 479 to 505 IC.[1a]

The West Mark was formed after the emperor led a campaign to expand the Empire's borders by crossing the Grey Mountains into Bretonnian territory. This newly conquered region on the western side of the Grey Mountains became known as the West Mark, solidifying Imperial control ver the area. The creation of the West Mark served to protect the Empire's western frontiers and established a foothold in a strategic region that bordered the Bretonnian kingdoms.[1a]
