"Ulric is god of wolves, war and winter. In some of the northern provinces, he is venerated even above Sigmar by peasants and nobles alike. Those who enter his priesthood are fierce and hardened men, embodying the primal nature of their god. Grim warriors in their own right, these Priests are able to instil in their comrades the cold howl of Ulric, inspiring them to feats of bravery and savagery."

A Warrior Priest of Ulric[1]

A Warrior Priest of Ulric, also known as a "Wolf Priest" and as one of "Ulric's Champions," are powerful and zealous Warrior Priests of the Cult of Ulric. Blessed by the feral god himself, the Warrior Priests of Ulric take to the battlefield to spread the gospel of Ulric while spilling the blood of any who would dare oppose them.

Role[]

In provinces of the Empire such as Middenland and Nordland, Ulric is worshipped above even Sigmar by peasants and nobles alike, for he is a god that represents the rugged north and was worshipped as a divine patron by the mortal Sigmar himself. In the north of the Empire, life is harsh; the winters are freezing, the soil is poor and the forests crawl with Goblins and Beastmen. Ulric is the state's patron because he is as harsh as the land itself, and the strength and independence he expects his from his followers hardens the people to the austerity of their existence. Ulric's Warrior Priests reflect this quality.[1]

All clerics of Ulric are ferocious warriors, for entry into the Cult of Ulric is forbidden to those who are weak. This is because Ulric is a warrior god first and foremost, expecting his followers to meet problems head-on and by force of arms whenever possible.[1]

In battle the priests of Ulric are the embodiment of their god, swinging their axes and swords and crying oaths to their enemies with the ferocity of the Wolf God himself. The warriors around them are filled with courage, and the faith and strength of the Warriors of Ulric is indomitable. The priests can be empowered with the divine fury of their god, calling upon the chill of winter or entering a furious rage to slaughter their enemies.[1]

Miracles[]

Ulrican Petty Magic[]

Some factions of the Cult of Ulric teach their priests how to deliver the following Ulrican blessings.

  • Blessing of the Blood-hand - The priest's furious prayers incite a berserker rage in another warrior.[2]
  • Blessing of Ulric - The priest's harsh words and roared prayer bless another individual with Ulric's savagery.[2]

Divine Lore of Ulric[]

The Cult of Ulric practises different rites depending on where the Warrior Priest is from. In the northern reaches of the Empire, most Ulrican temples teach prayers that focus upon their deity's aspects as a god of winter, an embodiment known as Ulric the Snow King.[2]

Farther south, including in most of Middenland, the Ulrican temples still practice rituals revolving around winter, but they also learn the prayers spoken during war from Ulric's more martial aspect, Ulric the White Wolf.[2]

Lastly, some far-flung Ulrican temples, including many ideologically on the fringes of the cult, focus solely on Ulric's more savage aspect during wartime, and include some of the cult's most fearsome warriors who worship this mlore bloody-minded aspect of the god as Ulric Blood-Hand.[2]

Some of the more notable miracles available to priests of Ulric are noted below:

  • Battle Fury - Ulric's spirit fills the priest and their bloodlust is unleashed.[2]
  • Crush the Weak - Reciting the vitriolic prayer fills the priest with Ulric's scorn for the weak and cowardly.[2]
  • Frost's Bite - The priest prays to Ulric to freeze their enemy's body and blood with his frosty breath.[2]
  • Heart of the Wolf - The priest's allies are inspired with the martial spirit of Ulric, and gain increased morale and greater force in combat.[2]
  • Hoarfrost Thews - The priest's prayers send ripples of chill through their body, and frost forms on their flesh. They are immune to exposure effects caused by freezing conditions. This spell may only be attempted once per day.[2]
  • Howl of the Wolf - The priest howls like one of Ulric's wolves and instils their allies with a lust for battle.[2]
  • Ice Storm - The priest summons up a fierce storm of lashing ice anywhere within a limited range to decimate their foes.[2]
  • Ulric's Gift - The priest's touch and blessing awakens the slumbering berserker in one ally.[2]
  • Unbridled Rage - The priest roars dedications to the god of war, and those already under their sway respond with a berserker rage.[2]
  • The Snow King's Decree - Ulric's hatred for the weak, the cowardly, and the dishonourable drips from the scornful words of his priest's bellowed prayer. Silvery, freezing fire erupts about one target within range.[2]
  • Wild Pack - The priest howls forth their angry prayers to Ulric, and their allies bristle with barely restrained violence, greatly enhancing their performance in any combat that follows.[2]
