A selection of Warrior Priest hammers.

The Warrior Priest is a career (for either gender) in the Empire's Order of the Griffon army. The career combines formidable combat prowess and decent armor with a range of support abilities (buffs and healing). Warrior Priests are tireless enemies of Chaos, using faith in the man-God Sigmar to empower them. The Warrior Priest is paired with the Dark Elven Disciple of Khaine.

Career overview

We must be ever-vigilant, for if we become unwary and weak the enemies of mankind will devour us utterly. Place your faith in Sigmar to protect you, place your trust in your Emperor to lead you, and put your strength in your sword to deliver you from those who would destroy your Empire.

Warrior priests are among the true vanguard of the Order armies. Their presence at the forefront of all battle serves as a constant inspiration to the soldiers who march in defense of the Empire. They are not true warriors in the classical sense as are (Ex. Slayers). But the Warrior Priest stands squarely against the enemy in the front line of battle, for courage is both demanded and rewarded by his patron god, Sigmar.

It is in this melee position that they excel at more than just bashing and smashing their foes. Through their attacks, the Warrior Priest generates "Righteous Fury", called down from their God in Sigmar. This allows them to not only destroy all enemies in their path with powerful blows, but also heal their comrades as well as themselves in the thick of battle. Damage dealer and healing master, these masters of holy power never say never and will always press their enemies until the bitter end.

As the extended arm of the Cult of Sigmar, it falls to the Warrior Priest to inspire and embolden his allies while delivering mighty blows to the forces of Destruction with his holy weapons. He performs both of these tasks with great zeal, for he knows that without his guidance and strength of spirit, the Empire would almost surely be lost.

Warrior Priest Mechanics

Playing a Warrior Priest can be both exciting and challenging, requiring a solid understanding of a few simple mechanics, some of which are specific to Warrior Priests, while others are not. The primary role of the Warrior Priest is that of a healer (as stated during character creation), though they also excel in both melee and in buffing other players.

Defensive Target

Many of the Warrior Priest's abilities have a beneficial effect on a single target. For those abilities which benefit only a single target, that target is almost always the Warrior Priest's defensive target. A defensive target is selected in many different ways, most of which are fairly intuitive (i.e. just click on them.) Remember that you can have both a defensive and an offensive target.

Here are a few examples of how defensive targets are used by Warrior Priests:

  • Healing yourself - click on your character's party portrait (top left), or press F1 (the default key for selecting yourself) to select yourself as your defensive target and then activate your healing ability
  • Buff another player's strength - select another player by clicking on them to select them as your Defensive Target, then select an enemy by clicking on it to select it as your Offensive Target, then use the Sigmar's Fist ability.

Action Points

Most of the melee damage and "buffing" abilities the Warrior Priest uses are powered by the use of Action Points. How many Action Points any given ability uses can typically be seen by hovering the mouse over the ability and reading the description. Each ability has a different effect but most of them serve to also increase the Warrior Priest's pool of Righteous Fury.

Righteous Fury

Righteous Fury is used to power the healing and blessing abilities of the Warrior Priest. As blessings are chanted and words of healing are spoken, the Warrior Priest's pool of Righteous Fury (RF) is depleted. While the pool does slowly replenish itself over time out of combat, the most effective way to refill the pool is by using action abilities which directly add points to it. (Read the descriptions of all abilities to learn how much RF is added by each one.)

Career Specialties

In addition to the above mechanics, the Warrior Priest is also capable of resurrecting allies and curing many ailments. Warrior Priests are equipped with an AOE debuff and AOE detaunt to lower enemies damage to you, if specced accordingly.

Masteries

Each mastery tree allows the Warrior Priest to focus his abilities according to play style and taste.

Path of Salvation

The Path of Salvation focuses on divine magic: primarily healing abilities. A player who specializes in Salvation will become a much more powerful healer, although he will still need to be on the front lines like a melee combatant.

Path of Grace

The Path of Grace is centered around melee attacks which inspire and bolster the Warrior Priest and his allies. A Master of Grace will be able to simultaneously wreak havoc upon his enemies with his warhammer and improve himself and his companions, making him an especially valuable comrade when standing side-by-side with other allies.

Path of Wrath

The Path of Wrath is focused on crippling melee attacks which weaken, hinder, and harass the player's opponents. Someone who specializes in Wrath will certainly be the most offensively-focused type of Warrior Priest, as he will be both damaging his enemies and weakening them with each swing of his warhammer.
