Walden had been a knight engaged on the holy quest for the Grail, travelling the land in search of the Lady's favour. He was rumoured to have fallen when he suffered a mortal blow from a Dark Knight of cursed Mousillon. His retainers had claimed that the Lady herself had appeared upon an ethereal ship, powered by neither sail nor oar, and had borne him to her immortal realm.
Alas, it was later discovered that he did not join the lady on her misty isle after all. While patrolling the dark woods of the Forest of Châlons, the young brothers Calard and Bertelis of Garamont discovered an immense, ancient and contorted oak tree. This was a vile trophy-rack for the Beastmen of the forest, adorned with those they had slain. The corpses of Greenskins and Humans hung from its branches, while rusted swords, armour and shields littered its base. Among the roots of the cursed tree, the brothers found a Bretonnian helmet - old and rusted - from which a skull slipped. Much to their dismay, the helmet bore the Heraldry of Walden of Lyonesse - all but confirming the knight's fate...
