The Vigils are a Tilean maritime area near the city-state of Luccini, known for a naval battle that was fought there against the Dreadfleet, an Undead fleet engaged in raiding the Tilean coast during the 26th century IC.[1a] On the 21st day of Sigmarzeit in 2522 IC, the ships commanded by the Vampire Lord Vampire Count (Title)|Count]] Noctilus, were defeated by the ships of the Tilean Navy that came to reinforce the Grand Alliance of Sartosan pirates already engaged with the enemy, giving the Sartosan vessels time to lick their wounds before the final battle.[1a]

During the battle at the Vigils, the Sartosan Grand Alliance's flagship, Heldenhammer, engaged in a fierce conflict with the vessels of the Dreadfleet, led by the flagship Bloody Reaver. Jaego Roth, the captain of the Heldenhammer and leader of the Grand Alliance, orchestrated the defence, utilising cannons and maneuvering tactics against the approaching enemy. However, the Bloody Reaver's sheer size and firepower posed a formidable challenge.[1a]
During the battle, the Heldenhammer suffered significant damage, including the loss of its foremast. The crew engaged in close combat with Undead warriors boarding their ship. Despite their efforts, Roth realised they were outmatched by the forces of the Bloody Reaver.[1a]
As the battle reached its climax, the Nehekharan war galley Curse of Zandri, a part of the Dreadfleet, unleashed a devastating beam of light, causing further chaos. Yet, just as victory seemed within the Grand Alliance's reach with the arrival of reinforcements from the Tilean fleet, the ships of the Dreadfleet retreated, leaving Roth and his crew frustrated and determined to further pursue their enemies.[1a]
