The Vegetable Mob is the name of a minor gang of racketeers that operates in and near Altdorf's Haffenstadt district.[1a]
The gang is particularly active on Marktags, when local farmers bring their goods through Haffenstadt on their way to the Grandmarket. The Halflings of the district like it that way, since they can purchase the highest quality produce before it has even reached market. Altdorf's human innkeepers, however, would rather get first pick themselves, and some began meeting farmers while they were still outside the city walls. The Vegetable Mob, however, keeps these enterprising innkeepers from meeting the farmers before the halflings do by means of threats. Some innkeepers have dared to defy the Vegetable Mob, bringing bodyguards along to their early-morning shopping trips.[1a]
