The Vargr Breughel Memorial Theatre is the most popular theatre in the city of Altdorf. Located along the Street of a Hundred Taverns, it is home to Detlef Sierck, the most celebrated playwright in the Empire, and the acting troupe known as the Detlef Sierck Players.[1a]

Around 2506 IC, Guglielmo Pentangeli was the theatre's business manager, and Felix Hubermann conducted the theatre's orchestra.[2a][2b]

History[]

The Vargr Breughel Memorial Theatre was once an undistinguished playhouse known as the "Beloved of Shallya." All that changed with the rise of the playwright Detlef Sierck. Today, the theatre regularly sells out when Sierck debuts a new play. It also receives the patronage of Emperor Karl Franz, though he seldom attends performances there.[1a]

The theatre stages all manner of plays, including sophisticated comedies, simple morality plays, student revues, and political satires.[1a]

Layout[]

Over the course of its history, the Vargr Breughel Memorial Theatre has been built and rebuilt over a dozen times. Today, its newfound success is reflected in its physical appearance: its exterior is grandiose and its interior decoration is ornate and gaudy.[1a][2c]

There are a number of secret backstage exits that lead to back alleys and sewers. These were built in an earlier era of the playhouse, when Altdorf's civic authorities would crack down on subversive political plays, and actors often had to make a quick escape.[1a]

Beneath the theatre are a warren of tunnels, built throughout its history. Below the fifth level of basements is a saltwater lagoon once used for smuggling. It's rumoured that these tunnels are haunted by the Ghost of Bruno Malvoisin, a corrupted Bretonnian playwright who was once the Vargr Brueghel's writer-in-residence.[1a][2c][2d]
