Varenna was a town in early Tilea that was destroyed during the orc and goblin incursions between 475 IC and 978 IC . According to legend, the defending mercenary general Justintine von Varenna was the first to come up with the idea of taking the army's treasures in a treasure chest onto the battlefield, as the walls of the city had collapsed as a result of an earthquake and the city could therefore not be held. Although the Greenskins were defeated when they brought the mercenary army on the coast, the city was never rebuilt.
While the ruins of Varenna are close to Trantio , the site of the battle for the treasure chest is not documented. Both the people of Luccini and Remas claim the battlefield was near their respective cities , and many Old World nobles trace their lineage to one of the surviving victors of the legendary battle.
