This Post has had the approval of the Mods and can be reached via the following link, End Times Additional Material.

The following is the response from Josh Reynolds, author of part of the End of Time pentalogy, to fans interested in knowing what happened to the regions and factions that were only mentioned in passing in those books. They are not considered official material because they were not published by Games Workshop, but we find it interesting for fans to have access to them anyway.[1]

History[]

Estalian Mosaic

Map of Estalia

The Skaven invasion of Estalia occurred shortly after the ratmen emerged from Skavenblight and destroyed Tobaro. Like Tilea, Estalia was divided into small competing states, and the city-states did not ally themselves in time to coordinate an organized defense. One by one the great Estalian cities fell, causing hundreds of refugees to flee to the ports of Magritta and Bilbali or to the relative safety offered by the Irrana Mountains.

The Skaven entered Estalia via the Tramonto Pass and advanced with little opposition until they reached Magritta, a stronghold of the Cult of Myrmidia. Despite being besieged before Bilbali, Magritta managed to defend herself against the Skaven for much longer than the rest of the Estalian cities did. This was due, in part, to the miraculous arrival of the knights of the Order of the Blazing Sun, who came to the aid of the city where the largest temple of the Myrmidian religion was located. Their support was decisive in protecting as many citizens as possible.

The Knights of the Blazing Sun were not the only ones who came to the rescue of Magritta: Guild Duelists and the enigmatic Lady Khemalla, a servant of the Queen of the Silver Pinnacle, joined forces to stop the advance of ratmen.

Most of Magritta's famous army had been assigned to evacuation work in favor of the civilian population and only made a notable contribution to the conflict when the Skaven finally entered the city. It was at this time that the fleet carried out a coastal bombardment from the Bay of Quietude on the ratmen, allowing the Estalian troops still standing to form a last defense around the temple of Myrmidia.

The situation was desperate as the Skaven had surrounded the temple and with it also the last forces defending it. Being aware of the nearness of their end, the human troops resigned themselves to receiving and trying to bear the final charge of the enemy, but that was not the intention of the gods towards the children of Estalia.

At that moment, the great doors of the temple of Myrmidia opened behind the defenders of Magritta, and from the temple a female figure emerged with a body bathed in gold and copper and with the appearance of Isabella Giovanni Luccelli, Aquila Ultima of the Order of the Eagle. With a sure step and without saying a word, she pushed his way through the defenders of the city and placed herself at the front of the defensive line. Then it became clear to everyone present that Myrmidia herself had incarnated in Isabella and had come to die along with the rest of them. With the feeling of incipient internal fire, the Estalians seized their weapons and did not wait for the enemy, but instead charged the surprised Skaven. Although heroic, with the death of the last defenders of the city, Magritta fell, and with her Estalia's last hope. Only a few small fortresses located in the Irrana Mountains managed to withstand the Skaven tide until the end of days.

Minor references[]

Josh Reynolds also mentions, without giving further details, the presence in the siege of Magritta of the following characters from some Warhammer Fantasy Battles novels:

  • Pieter Verstohlen (Sword of Justice and Sword of Vengeance by Chris Wraight) - He was on a diplomatic mission in Estalia when the end came. He was last seen in Magritta, in the Great Temple of Myrmidia, as the skaven poured down the steps toward the remaining defenders.
  • Florin and Lorenzo (The adventures of Florin & Lorenzo by Robert Earl) - They were among the last defenders around the temple of Myrmidia.
