The Tilean city-states frequently make war among themselves. Consequently, there are many bands of Tilean mercenary knights in heavy armor willing to fight for one city or another, these soldiers of fortune are known as Tilean Condottieri. In times of relative peace, many seek employment elsewhere in the Old World.[1a]
However, it should be noted that due to the heavy use of pikemen units, and the smaller number of heavily armed and armored knights than in the Empire, the Tilean mercenary armies tend to rely more on the stradioti, swift, lightly-armed knights who provide invaluable mobile attack power.[2a]
Notable Companies[]
- Blue Heron - Nuln of all the Grand Provinces of the Empire relies the most on hired mercenaries. The Tilean ‘Blue Heron’ condottieri have been on retainer for over a century.
- Knights of the Rose - The Knights of the Rose are a famed band of Condottieri from Luccini.
- Venators - The Venators, led by Etto the Fierce were mercenary knights at the pay of Miragliano, they defeated the arrogant Bretons under Baron du Bors to the Tournament of Ravola in 1425 IC.
- Voland's Venators - Voland's Venators are a famous band of Dogs of War mercenaries whose reputation as the best cavalrymen in all of Tilea exceeds that of even veteran knights of the Empire or some say, even Bretonnia itself.
