"West of Remas, across the Tilean Sea, lies the shattered Carvorna Archipelago, which acts as the first natural defence of Tobaro, most remote of all the Tilean city-states. At the heart of Tobaro rises the city of the same name, but she is also called Vedenza the True by those who love her. Vedenza resembles Barak Varr in that it arises directly from the shoreline of the Abasko Coast, where it was built directly into a cliff face. The Tileans made use of a series of sea caves carved by erosion and expanded, then abandoned, by the Elves long ago. Thus, the city exists throughout the cliff, as well as rising above it in soaring towers."

Theodosius Schreiber, born Tobias Ulster von Loningbruck, is an Imperial scholar who travelled most of the Old World to discover the secrets of the monstrosities that populate it, from the unruly Border Princes to the free city-states of Tilea.[1a]

History[]

"Theodosius Schreiber," in actuality the Imperial nobleman Tobias Ulster von Loningbruck, was raised to be the next Baron von Loningbruck, a destiny he abandoned just shy of his 17th birthday to flee south over the Black Mountains to the Border Princes and "freedom." Several years of such "freedom" almost destroyed him, before he managed to slip north once more, travelling with a wandering, motley troop.[1a]

Schreiber "reinvented" himself several times as he travelled from place to place before writing a well-received book on mounts (mostly focusing on horses with some vaguely useful material on Pegasi and Demigryphs) as "Theodosius Schreiber" and settling in Altdorf. His drinking buddies call him "Theo" -- but he has few real friends.[1a]

Personality[]

Theodosius Schreiber has seen, if anything, a little too much of the Old World. His wiry frame and scholarly dress disguise the fact that he is surprisingly quick on his feet, and a practised hand with the oddly ornate rapier he keeps by his side.[1a]

His accent is hard to place, and in forgetful moments he sometimes uses words more appropriate for a courtly dinner than the dingey bars he favours. What is not an affectation is Schreiber's love of knowledge. He is determined to learn as much about the Old World as possible and sees spreading this knowledge as being an inherent good in and of itself.[1a]

Secrets[]

Schreiber is not who he claims to be. He hides his past as the scion of an Averland noble house. His real name is Baron Tobias Ulster von Loningbruck. He is an atheist who thinks that all priests are just deluded wizards. He did terrible things to survive his time in the Border Princes.[1a]

Schreiber has never met an illicit vice that he wasn't willing to sample, and has a real soft spot for old, broken soldiers and down-on-their-luck mercenaries. He always tries to help them, if he can.[1a]

Schreiber's Entourage[]

Theodosius Schreiber has been accompanied in his recent voyage to the lands of the south by some eccentric companions.[1b]
