Talabecland is the third tier zone for the Order of the Griffon army. Talabecland is one of the Electoral Provinces of the Empire, centered in the middle of the Empire's Great Forest, and yet the financial heart of the Empire outside Altdorf and Reikland. In WAR, Talabecland is under assault by the Chaos forces of the Raven Host and Warlord Tchar'zanek, attacking from High Pass.

Overview

Resting on the shores of the River Talabec is the aptly named Talabecland. The Grand Duchy of Talabecland is a province of merchants and tradesmen. Their trade relies on the River Talabec and it's sister River, the Stir, as well as the winding roads (such as the Great Forest Road) through the Great Forest which covers the region. The capital of Talabecland is Talabheim, a large city-state built inside a meteorite crater, however Talabheim is not featured in WAR. The most commonly worshipped God in the province is Taal (the God of wild places), though devotion to Sigmar is also very strong here.

Throughout its history in the Warhammer world Talabecland has been one of the more aggressive regions of the Empire and was largely responsible for the time of the three Emperors. When Countess Ottilia of Talabecland declared herself Empress, for the next few hundred years there were two Emperors one being the Elected Emperor and the other the ruling Elector of Talabecland. The situation came to a head when the Elector count of Middenheim declared himself Emperor (making three claimants) and civil war ensued, which would only end when Magnus the Pious united the empire in the face of Asavar Kul's Chaos invasion. The Talabecland armies wear red and yellow uniforms and usually consist of smaller numbers of elite soldiers rather than the large armies of other regions..

Talabecland in WAR

In WAR, Autumn has come early to the province and brought with it a chill wind and a sickly humour. The trees lose their leaves and the sky clouds, portending the Chaos invasion which is imminent. Worse, it is from this eerie region that the debilitating Chaos plague spreads, and it has cut the numbers of the local militia by half, adding to the rampant desertion as hundreds of refugees flee the towns hoping to avoid their doom. In the south west of the province lies Meuselbach Farms, the ancestral home of Lord Meuselbach, ex-wizard of the Grey College and current servant of Tzeentch, who quietly spreads the plague via shipments of grain and wheat from his farm.

But Talabecland hides another secret. In the north east, on the banks of the River Talabec, lies Kreugerhaus, ancestral home of Lady Anhilda Kreuger. Anhilda, a Slaaneshi cultist, has been gifted with the Corruptor's Crown, a magical item that is of great interest to Tchar'zanek and his approaching Raven Host. Here she fights back against the approaching Chaos horde, summoning Daemonettes, Chaos Spawn, and other creatures of the abyss, to protect the gift from her god.

Karl Franz, though, has dispatched his armies to the province to root out and destroy the plague bearers and head off the oncoming Chaos war host. They have burned the bridges that cross the rivers north to south, hoping to buy time for the Empire's allies to come to it's aid. Digging in, and readying for the coming onslaught, the army of the Empire prepares for battle. For here, in Talabecland, the Order of the Griffon stands guard to protect the last province before Reikland, and keep Altdorf from certain invasion.
