Map showing the former regions where Skraelings lived on the continent of Naggaroth before the coming of the Dark Elves in the wake of the Sundering of Ulthuan.
The Skraeling was the name given to the collective tribes of Men that inhabited the continent of Naggaroth in the days before the Sundering drove the Dark Elves to its shores.[1]
These primitive Men paid tribute to the the cold lords of the north during the summer by making pilgrimages along spirit walks, before journeying southward in winter to avoid their hunger.[1]
The Skraelings divided themselves into tribes and nations, such as the Redfoot, the Tapach and the Wontimok. When the Dark Elves came, many of these Human tribesmen were driven northwards or taken into slavery by the Druchii. The Redfoot and Tapach once inhabited the Black Forests and the Granite Hills.[1]
The original Skraelings are now long extinct, perished either under the lashes of the Druchii or assimilated into the tribes of the Chaos Wastes. Only forgotten totems and, some say, their restless spirits remain.[1]
Trivia[]
The Skraeling of Naggaroth may be a reference to the Skræling, the name given to the Native American tribe that Norse Vikings and adventurers encountered following their settlement of North America in the early 11th century, such as the colonies they placed in the lands they named "Vinland." The term "Skræling" has several meanings, including "dried skin," "barbarian," "to shout or yell" and "weakling."
