Skalf the Dragonslayer is a heroic figure and the founder of the Dwarf hold of Karak Azgal, also known as the Dragon Crag.[1a]

History[]

Skalf's tale is one of courage, resourcefulness, and great achievement in Dwarfen history.[1a]

Skalf is the Dwarf hero who successfully reclaimed Karak Azgal from the Dragon Graug the Terrible, a monstrous creature that had made the hold its lair after the Dwarfs had been forced to abandon it due to a combined assault from Orcs, Goblins, and Skaven. Graug had hoarded the treasure hidden by the Runelord Stormbeard in a secret vault deep within the mountain. Many adventurers, including previous Dwarf expeditions, tried and failed to slay Graug and recover the treasure.[1a]

Skalf, however, managed to find the hidden vault and confront Graug in an epic battle. He defeated the Dragon by chopping off its head, earning him the title of "Dragonslayer". With Graug dead, Skalf claimed the vast treasures of Karak Azgal and used the wealth to rebuild the Dwarf hold on the ruins of the old Karak Izril. While the new Karak Azgal wasn't as grand as its predecessor, it became a stronghold ruled by Skalf and his descendants.[1a]

Karak Azgal also became a haven for adventurers seeking treasure from the ruins, with the Dwarfs keeping tight control over who entered and what was taken. Despite these efforts, the Dwarfs of Karak Azgal, like the rest of their kin, never fully reclaimed the glory of their past, but Skalf's victory over Graug remains one of their proudest tales.[1a]
