Setep, also known as Setep of Bhagar, was the sole ruler of the Fifth Dynasty of the city-state of Khemri that ruled over the other cities of Nehekhara.[1a]
History[]
Before Setep's time as king he had been a general among the Bhagarites. He had originally come from Khemri and thus restored the crown of Nehekhara to the great city of his birth.[4a] His legion had conquered lands as far away as the south of what would later become the Empire, attacking from the borderers of the Nehekharan Empire in the Border Princes.[4d]
Later Setep overthrew Lahkashaz, the last ruler of the Fourth Dynasty, and killed all his disciples with the exeption of the son he had with one of his concubines: a tall and powerful lad called Vashanesh. He possessed all the nobility of Lahmizzar and all the strategic genius of Lahmizzash, whose rule had led to civil war and rebellion in Khemri, as he was a kinsman of Neferata, who by this time was outcast and accursed across the land, and yet continuing as the ruling queen of Lahmia.[2a]
Setep’s rebellion was supported by the people of Khemri because they could not abide their king ignoring the decadence (and rumours of black sorcery) of the lords of Lahmia. Vashanesh even if he was a commander of the Legion of Setep, managed to escape the purges, and was determined to find the truth behind the rumours that were circulating about the new king and searched for allies against the usurper.[4a][4b][4c]
Setep proclaimed himself king, rededicated the necropolis, and restored the priesthood of the Mortuary Cult to their ancient rank and status, after they had been deprived of much of their power during the reign of Lahkashaz.[2a]
The seeds of tyranny laid by General Setep had run deep, and eventually set the stage for a new pretender, Alcadizaar, the king who managed to gather armies from every city of Nehekhara againsts Lahmia.[4a]
Afterlife[]
Sometime between 120 and 170 IC, King Setep, now resurrected as one of the Undead Tomb Kings of the Land of the Dead, invaded the Border Princes and reclaimed much of the territory he had once held in life.[3a]
