"It is the role of a Sergeant-at-Arms to keep discipline amongst the ragged ranks of commoners. Should they fail and cause their liege embarrassment upon the field, the penalties can be most severe."
- —Description of Bretonnia's peasant Sergeants-at-Arms[1]
Sergeants-at-Arms are the peasants of Bretonnia who are courageous and skilled enough in martial affairs to lead one of the peasant regiments that serve in the armies of the lords of Bretonnia.
Role[]
Amongst the ranks of the peasantry that fight in the armies of Bretonnia, there are, invariably, men and women that display a natural aptitude for leadership and a degree of warrior prowess not normally associated with their lowly station. Of course, such individuals cannot join the ranks of the knighthood, but the lords they serve invariably feel it only right and proper to reward and recognise the effort it must have taken for that peasant to elevate themselves above the level of their peers.[1]
So it is then that the peasant regiments that serve the lords of Bretonnia come to be led in battle by Sergeants-at-Arms. These peasant officers not only lead with courage, but inspire their subordinates, their rank proof that even a humble peasant can receive the recognition of the nobility.[1]
