The Sentinels of Xeti on the western coastal plain of Lustria.
The Sentinels of Xeti is an arcane apparatus comprising multiple monoliths located on the coastline of western Lustria whose purpose is to restore communication between the Lizardmen and the Old Ones who created them.
History[]
West of the Spine of Sotek mountain range, upon an acrid coastal plain beyond the Chasm of Condor, is to be found one of the strangest places in Lustria. The Sentinels of Xeti take the form of row upon row of monoliths, each dozens of yards high and covered in intricately graven patterns and shimmering green inlays. It is said that the Sentinels were erected at the order of the Slann Lord Arexibo of the Lizardmen temple-city of Itza soon after the Great Catastrophe. Their purpose is to listen for messages from the Old Ones, though to date none have been heard.[1a]

Whenever the glyphs that cover the monoliths occasionally start pulsing a startling green, the Skink overseers are stirred into a frenzy, only calmed by the croaked proclamations of the Slann Mage-Priest Qrl'Zy'Ken.[2a]
Qrl'Zy'Ken is a relatively young Slann, one of the last born from the Fifth Spawning. He was tasked to watch over the Sentinels of Xeti, an eminent position as the Sentinels listen for signs of the Old Ones. When at last their creators reach out to the Lizardmen, it will be Qrl'Zy'Ken who first hears them. Despite this, the Slann grows ever more lethargic.[2a]
While emotional states such as "depression" are alien to a Slann, it does seem his long vigil has taken a toll. His contemplations are also ceaselessly interrupted by his Skink attendants, who take the slightest signal picked up by the Sentinels to be the Old Ones. The mage-priest only stirs enough to assure them that no, this is merely another fluctuation in the Winds of Magic, before returning to his meditations. These constant interruptions mean Qrl'Zy'Ken has been unable to finish a complete thought in at least a century.[2a]
Recently Magisters throughout Altdorf clutched their heads as a voice thundered through their minds, demanding answers. At the same time, in Lustria, the Sentinels of Xeti picked up a true signal at last. But, to Qrl'Zy'Ken's confusion, it was in perfect Reikspiel, a language of Men.[2a]
Trivia[]
The Sentinels of Xeti are likely a tongue-in-cheek reference to SETI -- the Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence. SETI is the long-running real world scientific program that seeks radio messages sent by intelligent alien life. Several radio telescopes dedicated to the project are located in the deserts of Chile in South America, the analogous real world location to the Sentinels of Xeti on Lustria.
