Salvatore Fiorenzo Bellarmini di Rosellino e Luccini arrived one day in Altdorf with flourishes and an entourage. He revealed his credentials to the city fathers and they were flawless. He had come for a reason: to be the ambassador to the Empire of the Tilean city state of Luccini.[1a]
His first priority is to advertise to the Emperor. His second priority is to sell an exclusive trade monopoly between the Empire and Luccini to the highest bidder. Attractive, cosmopolitan, and well traveled, he soon became the talk of imperial society. There is only one problem. He's not the ambassador, he's not even from Tilea , he's just a scammer and a scoundrel.[1a]
Diego (which is his real name, since he is from Estalia) knows that he barely has time. He is aware that it will not take long to be discovered and he is playing his neck. He plans to sell as many confidential and exclusive monopolies as he can, accumulate as much cash as possible, and then "inform his prince" (flee as quickly as possible). If someone gets in their way, they will discover that they are accused of threatening and attempting to assassinate the ambassador. Diego has no problem allowing innocent men to be hanged if it means he will make his fortune.[1a]
