The Lizardmen discover another of the sacred plaques containing a fragment of the Great Plan of the Old Ones.
The sacred plaques are the most holy of all the wondrous relics the Lizardmen guard. Each plaque is wrought from gold, a substance chosen not for its value but for its longevity. The sacred plaques contain valuable information on how to correctly implement the mysterious Great Plan of the Old Ones for the world of Mallus.[1a][1a]
History[]
Untold eons ago the mighty Slann of the First Spawning inscribed the Great Plan of the Old Ones onto sacred plaques of gold and bronze, before they themselves perished in the Great Catastrophe of ancient times.[2a]
Cast upon each plaque is a series of Saurian glyphs, the written language of the Lizardmen, describing an event that occurred in the past or has yet to occur in the future. Future events described on the plaques are treated as both prophecy and instruction. If an event is described, the Lizardmen will ensure it comes to pass at the prescribed time. Each Lizardmen temple-city maintains its own sequence of plaques, yet none have possessed a complete sequence since before the coming of Chaos into the world of Mallus following the collapse of the Polar Gates during the Great Catastrophe.[1a]
These plaques were copied by the remaining Slann and transcriptions of the sacred plan were placed in all the temple-cities. It is not certain whatever whether these copies were faithful in every detail to their master copy, half of which has now vanished through the depredations of plundering invaders. For this reason every sacred plaque is precious to the Slann mage-priests, because it may reveal unknown details of the divine plan of the Old Ones. The Slann will go to any lengths to retrieve the sacred plaques which are plundered from their opulent, pyramidal temples.[2a]
