The sabre is a sword with a slightly curved, single edge similar to the scimitar, but with a little longer and straighter blade. It may be used on foot or by a mount. Skilled fencers can make good use of a sabre. Sabres were originally wielded by mounted troops as the design was intended to make it easier for a warrior to slash down at their foes from horseback, but that is more a matter of tradition than a strict necessity.[2a]
Among Tilean mercenaries, swords are often single-edged sabres or long-bladed weapons similar to those used in the north.[1a]
