"This stone is an object of great magical power. Long have I coveted it...Since before I was wed to Redhand. He was not strong enough to overcome the guardian. You were. Now I bid you farewell"
Redhand was a Tilean pirate from Sartosa, who was very active in the Southern Sea, especially around the Principality of Tobaro. He was infamous for daring to assault the Estalian city of Magritta.[1]
History[]
"In the distant past there was a dastardly Sartosan master who sailed several seas in his mighty galley. He cried “Avast! Avast me hearties!” he cried at last. “We’ll bring nasty merchants to their knees and seize vast hordes of booties ‘n’ rubies.” His crew, being ghastly, they all agreed."
- —Redhand’s Chanty, first verse[2a]
Redhand was the terror of the Gulf of Araby for twenty years, long before Uragh Goldtusk and his Orc freebooters appeared.[1]
At one time, Redhand commanded a fleet of pirate ships. They sailed everywhere they pleased, and even stormed the walls of the Estalian city of Magritta, though that assault would prove to be the event that saw the end of the pirates' reign of terror.[1]
The king of Magritta[Note 1] took exception to the sack of his city, or so they say, and sent out all of his admirals. The pirate fleet was smashed at Bounty Bay. They say Redhand escaped with his treasure, and was never heard of again.[1]
Many a strange tale is told of Redhand. They say he was married to a seawitch, who ruled him with a hand of iron, and wove wind and wave to her bidding.[1]
The last time Redhand was heard of he was departing by sea ten years ago, to find new men for his crew. He mentioned that there was something that lived in strange ruins around the Gulf of Araby, a monster that guarded a magical gem as big as a fist. It was too powerful to be overcome by his men.[1]
Canon Conflict[]
Note 1: The novel talks about a king of Estalia, but during the 26th century IC, Estalia was fractured into multiple kingdoms with no single ruler.[1]
