The stanitsa of Ramaejk was among the first to be destroyed by the high chieftain Aelfric Cyenwulf, favoured lieutenant of Archaon. At his command, every living soul had their bellies cut open, before being impaled on the sharpened pine logs of the stanitsa's defensive wall. Carrion birds feasted on the still-living bodies for days after, and the scene had been left a monument to the triumph of a monster.[1a]
