An ancient golden totem representing the Lizardmen empire.

Quex is a Slann mage-priest of the temple-city of Pahuax in Lustria.[1a][2a]

History[]

After the sinking of Chupayotl, two Slann mage-priests engaged in what, to the Slann, was a raging and bitter dispute. Lord Quex of Pahuax believed that a drastic realignment of the Known World was overdue and that it should be instigated right away. Lord Itz-XIoc of Itza believed that no such realignment should be undertaken. Each lay recumbent on his throne while attendants wiped saliva from his lips, yet the sublime communion resonated to the sound of their telepathic argument.[1a][2a][4a]

At length, the debate escalated into the manner of an arcane duel. Mystical lightning arced from the tops of temple pyramids, the air became charged as the magical pressure grew to staggering proportions and the beasts of the jungles bellowed in anger and confusion. Then, in an instant, the matter was decided and the debate was won. The will of Lord Quex prevailed, and, drawing upon the staggering reservoirs of power within the Geomantic Web, the mage-priest caused the continents to move.[2a]

In -1500 IC Quex enacted a minor shift in the mortal world's continents. The geographic region worst hit by the tectonic reverberations of all was the Worlds Edge Mountains, for beneath this range was to be found the great Underway of the Dwarf empire. Lava surged up from the world's depths to flood the halls of the Dwarfs, and untold numbers were incinerated in an instant or destroyed by the cascading earthquakes. The Dwarf empire thereafter fell into decline.[1a][2a][4a]

In the rest of the world the skycastles of the Skytitans tumbled in the Mountains of Mourn and a ragged breach appeared in the Great Bastion of Grand Cathay, through which a hundred thousand vengeful Hung marauders swarmed. The lands of ancient Tylos were blasted apart, before being drowned by the sea. As far as the mage-priests were concerned, the realignment had been carried out according to the will of the Old Ones, as described on the Plaque of Otzli-Potec.[1a][2a][4a]

The shifting of the continents also resulted in a disaster at Skavenblight, the capital of the Skaven Under-Empire. The Great Machine of the Seer Order exploded. The Slann, ignorant of the existence of the newly emerged race of ratmen, registered the energy and attributed it solely to their own powerful spells. To this day they have failed to make any connection. The result was the Great Migration of the Skaven out of Skavenblight and across the world.[3a]

The continent of Lustria itself was not spared destruction. The great pyramid of Itza, atop which sat Lord Itz-XIoc, collapsed to the ground, killing the mage-priest in an instant. The venerable Slann's death sent shockwaves resounding through the sublime communion of the other Lizardmen mage-priests, violently awakening the meditating Slann.[2a]

Soon after, word came that amidst the rubble of Itz-XIoc's pyramid had been found the long-lost Plaque of Otzli-Potec. The awakened mage-priests of Itza ordered this plaque brought before them, and having read it, they pronounced that Lord Quex had been correct in his interpretation of the will of the Old Ones. The realignments would continue, the Slann mage-priests ordered, no matter the cost, lest the Lizardmen race ever again stray from the true path, or deviate from the Great Plan of the Old Ones.[2a]
