Mercenary Ninja Assassin

A Mercenary Ninja Assassin.

A Ninja Assassin is an indispensable member of a Samurai Lord's retinue.[1a]

Role[]

In mysterious Nippon, the Ninja, or Invisible Warriors, rule the night. Their very name is spoken fearfully in hushed tones. Trained from childhood in the martial arts of the Warrior Monks and armed with an array of strange and terrible weapons, this caste of Assassins has become a byword for sudden and inevitable death. Some credit them with magical powers, but they have no need of such things. Others claim they could rule Nippon if they wished, but disdain temporal power, hiring their skills to whoever can afford them.[3][4]

Dark agents of death who prey upon the unwary and slay them without mercy, Ninja Assassins remain disguised within regiments of ordinary troops until it is time for them to spring. Once a regiment is engaged in hand-to-hand combat, the Assassin throws off his disguise, leaps out of the regiment, and may attack any important figures in the enemy regiment.[3]

Ninja Assassins are particularly skilled at infiltrating forts and other defensive positions. They are not slowed by difficult terrain or obstacles, and when equipped with Nekode claws and grapnels, they can climb over walls.[4]

Wargear[]

The armoury of a Ninja Assassin consists of the Kusarigama (a sickle on a length of cord or light chain that can be thrown or used as a hand weapon), the Ninja Sword (which can be coated in Poison), Shurikens or Throwing Stars and Torinoko Grenades,[3a] grenades made from an egg shell filled with explosives or a flash-powder. Another version is the firecracker, which confuses the enemy as it jumps explosively around its feet, which can be loaded with explosives, blinding flash powder, or confusing firecrackers.[5a]
