Nehek was the Human king who in ca. -2500 IC founded the Nehekharan city of Khemri. Thereafter, other city-states were raised across the Great Land, but these founding kings, whose names are lost in the sands of time, warred upon each other and there was much strife in the land.[1a]
An Undead has been sent on a mission to get back the enchanted ring of Nehek, but nothing is known more than this.[2a]
The necromantic spell known as Invocation of Nehek takes its name from the King of Khemri. When a necromancer intones the dread syllables of this spell handed down from Nagash, the Great Necromancer himself, he breathes unlife into cadavers across the battlefield.[4a]
In High Nehekharan Nehekhara means the "Great Land"; it is unknown if Nehek's name is its origin.[1b]
History[]
Before the time when Settra prevailed over them, there were many kings in many places in Nehekhara and their names are not remembered, save for Nehek, of whom it is said that in his time no one lived in cities. Then afterwards came Zakash who was king in Zandri. In his time, it is said, writing was invented. Then came many kings until the time of Khesek who subjugated the desert dwellers and founded the city of Numas. Then after him came Hekesh. He made war on many kings. Thereafter there was strife in the land until with the coming of Settra the will of the ruler of Khemri became as law across the entirety of Nehekhara.[5a]
In -2500 IC Settra was crowned as the first of the true priest-kings of Nehekhara, and during his long life he conquered the entirety of the Great Land. Under his rule as first among equals, Nehekhara entered an unprecedented era of prosperity and expansion.[1a] By doing so he gained the epitaphs of "Scion of Nehek" and "Eternal Warden of Nehek's Lands".[3]
