The Nan-Gau Grenadiers are a missile infantry unit found in the armies of Grand Cathay that originated in the city of Nan-Gau in the Northern Provinces. They make use of powerful, hand-held blackpowder explosives known as "Thunder-Crash Bombs" in the Cathayan tongue.[1a]

Strapped to the teeth with grenades of uniquely formulated blackpowder, the Grenadiers of the artificer city of Nan-Gau shoulder an important (and volatile) responsibility within the ranks of Grand Cathay's Celestial Army. Known to the Cathayans as "Thunder-Crash Bombs," the Grenadiers' explosive payloads contain various mixtures of blackpowder whose ignition can stun targets and conceal retreats just as well as they can blow enemies apart.[1a]
The Grenadiers are drilled to know precisely when and where to throw their grenades to allow for various outcomes and battle tactics, but typically will range out ahead of their army's battle line in skirmish formations, either defending its flanks or baiting the enemy by hurling grenades into their ranks.[1a]
