Morr

The symbol of Morr

In the Empire, Morr is worshipped as God of Death and the Dead. He is believed to appear as a brooding, but stately middle-aged man in dark robes, and is the guardian of departed spirits. The act of dying, however, he leaves to more violent gods. He is the husband of Verena, and father of Myrmidia and Shallya. According to Imperial legends Khaine, Lord of Murder, is his brother, despite Khaine having his origins in the Elven pantheon, having come to the Old World by way of traders from Ulthuan.

He and his family are members of the "Southern" or "Town" pantheon of deities.

Symbology

Although death is an everyday occurrence in The Empire, Morr is not a god invoked casually and his symbols are thought to bring bad luck if displayed out of place. Instead, he is called on by the bereaved and grieving. The most common of his symbols are the raven, the scythe, the hourglass, the black rose, and the stone portal.

Worship

As with all things associated with death, Morr is a god both feared and respected. His shrines, found in all corners of the Old World, and the burial places, called Gardens of Morr, are shunned by people in everyday life. Usually it is only those who have lost someone recently that come to pray for Morr's assistance in guiding the departed spirits into afterlife.

Since Morr is the God of Dead, he is also a prayed to by Witch Hunters from the Church of Sigmar, when they are tasked to fight the Undead, hoping that he will aid them in returning the dead to their graves.

Morr is also the God of Dreams, since the Land of Sleep is closely linked to the Realm of the Dead, and it is believed that he can create great and terrible dreams and illusions.

The cult of Morr have a number of priests, and two orders: the Order of the Shroud, who tends to Morr's funerary rites, and the Augurs, who tend to Morr's function as a source of divination and oracle.

Military organisations

Morr, like most gods, has warriors that dedicate their lives to fight in his name. One of these organisations, called the Black Guard, consists of knights and templars charged with protecting Morr's temples and priests. They are also tasked with destroying those who disturb Morrs work, such as necromancers and vampires.

There are also two Knightly Orders dedicated to the God of Dead: The Raven Knights, who own the town of Siegfriedhof near Sylvania, and the Knights of Morr. Both are sworn enemies of the Undead, and are a common sight in villages near the Sylvanian border.
