  • Hey Peter

I noticed you removed Hague from the Reikland Council.

Wasn't he Franz's Reiksmarchal before Helborg? I think that's why he was considered part of the Reikland council.

While we're on the topic, Is the Reiksmarchal the term For the Grand Marchal of Reikland or the term for the Grand Marchal of the Empire? If the latter is true then we should probably take it out of the Reikalnd catagory.

If you're right and he wasn't then you might wanna remove him from the Reiksmarchal section as well. I don't know enough about it, its just something I noticed :)

    • Looking further into the this, it's not entirely clear.

I think the issue comes down to whether the Reiksmarshal of the Empire is the same position as the High Lord Reiksmarshal on the Reikland Council, or whether Karl Franz happened to appoint Kurt Helborg to both positions.

The High Lord Reiksmarshal of the Reikland Council is in charge of the state armies of Reikland (WFRP 4th Ed.) According to the two most recent Empire army books, the Reiksmarshal is the commander-in-chief of the Empire's armies. These sound like two distinct positions. That's why it's so confusing-- there are two similarly named but different offices.

Wilhelm Hague is explicitly said to be the Reiksmarshal (of the Empire). But there's nothing indicating that he was also the High Lord Reiksmarshal (of Reikland). Therefore, I don't think he can be put into the Reikland Council category.

    • Its even more confusing becasue they mix their terms. They call the members of the Reikland Council "High Lords" but Helborg is a Duke so...xD

I believe every province has a "Grand Marchal" position. The person who is the head general and strategist of the armies of that province and presumably the High Lord of their council.

I believe Helborg is the Grand Marshal of Reikland and the Reiksmarshal of the Empire, simply because Franz was elected Emperor and Helborg was his General.

If todbringer had won the vote then his Grand Marshal would be Reiksmarshal presumably.

Like I said though, I haven't read the Empire sources extensively enough to give you a definitive answer, that was just my take. I'll keep an eye out while working on my stuff and let you know if I find anything ^_^

That could be true. But there's nothing in the sources (as far as I know) that says it is. Therefore, it should be left off the wiki. The wiki should only contain such information as is contained within the sources. We can let our readers come to conclusions like that.

One other thing I forgot to mention is that Hague is from Talabecland. That would make it less likely that he held a position on the Reikland council.

  • Wow! You did an amazing page! It looks perfect! Thank you ever so much!

I was wondering whether to add the state flag symbols into their uniform entries or whether they should go into another page. What seems best to you?

      Loading editor
    • Thank you.

I'm thinking no to the state flags. That seems more like heraldry than uniforms.

  • Hey again Peter.

I took a note out of the Spanish Wiki's book and made a change to the Northmen category page and I was wondering what you think.

I think we do some things alot better than the Spanish wiki, like sources for example, but one thing they do that is really neat is they add little blurbs to category pages with a slideshow as well.

So if someone is very unfamiliar with a certain race, faction or Warhammer in general, they get a feel of what its all about in the category page right away, rather than having to dig tough and piece it together for themselves.

I think this would be really cool of us to do as well and its what I've just done for "Northmen". The reason I did it there in particular is that its kind of a secondary catagory on top of "Chaos" and "Norsca" so I think people might be a little more confused as to what "Northmen" is all about and how it differs from "Norsca".

Here's the Northmen Page. Just added a little blurb saying what the ethnic groups are, how they differ and stuff. Let me know what you think :)

Also, just for reference, here's an example of the Spanish wiki and what it does. Just have to to translate the page.

    • Hm. I'm not sure if it's necessary to put a general summary in category pages. It seems to me that the lead section of an article should serve that purpose. I think if a user wanted to learn about, say, the Empire, they would visit The Empire before.

Northmen is a bit of a special case. If a category doesn't have a corresponding article, it might be good to just put in a couple sentences explaining the scope of the category. Something like: "'Northmen' is a catch-all term used to describe the burly human races that live in and around the frigid Chaos wastes of the north. Northmen races include the Norscans, Hung, Kurgan, and Tong."

But we'll see what Paraduo has to say about this.

  • Hey Peter

I noticed someone just made an empire uniirms page, but its very empty.

Do you think we could litterrally jusst post the pages from the uniorms and heraldry book, instead of writing itt all out? or would that not be allowed?

I've got the book on hand so let me know what you want to do and if this is something we might want for otheere races too :)

    • Well, directly copying text from sources is certainly something people do on this wiki, so I'm not going to stop you. But I'm not a fan of that, and usually try at least to paraphrase. I also have the uniforms and heraldry book, so I could work on it too.

        Loading editor
    • You're not a fan? I'm suprised to hear you say that because I've gotten alot of flack from some of the other Admins for trying to paraphrase before.

Only reason I suggested it is because We'd basically be describing colours and images from the book, to the point where we might as well just post the pages and let them speak for themselves.

It was just a suggestion though, not exactly high on my priorities if I'm being honest.

        Loading editor
    • That's fair. If there are other things you want to spend your time on, you don't need to worry about the uniforms and heraldry page.

How are you doing? hope you're keeping safe in these unfortunate circumstances.

What was it about my catacgories that you thought could use improving?

    • Thanks.

As I said, it's not that I think your edits are bad. The issue is that you did this, as far as I know, without talking to anybody else.

"Empire Characters" is a large and important category. By breaking it up into subcategories, you are restructuring it in a major way. Maybe that's a good idea. But before you do that you should talk with the admins.

Could you say exactly what the aim and scope of your categories project is?

  • Er, I think the categories you've made are a little too long. In hindsight, it also seems redundant to have both it at the faction category. Do you mind if I reverse things? I'm sorry and take full responsibility for wasting your time.

    • I still stand by my decision. Many general categories, such as Heroes and Careers, are split up by faction, so it makes sense to do the same for Major Battles. In addition, many of the faction-specific categories, such as High Elves were dominated by articles about battles. So from that perspective it also seemed like there should be battle categories for each faction.

I suppose you are correct about the category names being awfully long. I could shorten them, where "Battles Involving the Greenskins" would become "Greenskin Battles," etc.

This was my rationale for creating the categories. However, if you still want to get rid of them, you are the senior administrator here and I would yield to you.

    • Hmm... rewrite the categories as Greenskin Battles, etc. Maybe I'll see what you mean.

        Loading editor
    • I'll have to agree with Paraduo here. Just cut the "involving the" out and its fine

    • Okay. I'll start renaming the categories as soon as I can, which may be a few days. I have way less free time this week than I did last week.

  • i have seen the "edit" above the pages when i seen wiki pages as i was young but i never  really understand them then and later on i just was afraid  to use them (in case i do something stupid.).

but it seems it is not that hard at all,so i will use it now to fix a few things i see but i still should be careful. thanks agian.

  • Congratulations on your new Content Moderator tag. I would like to tell you two things:

    1) Would you like to write a short paragraph talking briefly about you and how did you know Warhammer Fantasy, so that we the other members of the wiki know you a little better? It is always good that we are not strangers working separately ^^

    2) Very likely next week we will start using Discord, where we will can have direct messaging to deal with issues related to the wiki, its organization and its articles. With Paraduo we already have a communication like that on Slack for some time, and it has been very useful and agile for us. It would be great if you could also enter to Discord when the time comes :)

    • 1) I was first intoduced to Warhammer Fantasy Battles by a friend in the summer of 2012 (I think), and I began collecting Wood Elves. Over time, my interest in the lore of the Warhammer World gradually overtook other aspects of the hobby. Although I still have my models, I haven't played much since Games Workshop introduced Age of Sigmar. However, I still retain an interest in wargaming and have recently been writing my own ruleset. I have been an editor of the Warhammer Wiki since 2015, and was a regular contributor to the fantasy Lexicanum between 2014 and 2016.

      2) I would certainly be willing to join a discord server, when one is ready.

    • Discord is now ready for you to enter. Probably tomorrow or the day after tomorrow will be the general implementation. So we can go to open the working group with Paraduo today, and you will know the channel to talk about Fantasy ;) When they enter, they will see that the server is called "Warhammer 40k Wiki". That's because the 40K colleagues were the ones who created it a month ago, but it has been approved as a home for everyone. It will probably change to a more general name as soon as Fantasy fans start to enter. From start you will only see the #chat channel. Speak there and you will be given access to all other channels, it is a way to filter users.
