Melinda Greyweave is an Eonir vagrant, witch, and spy who lives in the Imperial capital city of Altdorf. She was originally despatched 200 years ago by Queen Marrisith in order to keep tabs on the Colleges of Magic. But the cramped, dirty Human city and the influence of Chaos have combined to drive Melinda slightly insane.[1a]
In 2304 IC, following the Great War Against Chaos, the High Elf Archmage Teclis founded the Colleges of Magic in Altdorf. Marrisith, the Queen of Laurelorn, questioned his choice of location, as Altdorf is the site of a powerful and ancient Arcane Fulcrum. She sent Melinda Greyweave as a spy to Altdorf to observe the progress of the Human Magisters and their Asur tutors.[1a]
Although Melinda had no knowledge of wizardry before her assignment, through observing the training of apprentice wizards she picked up the rudiments of handling the Winds of Magic. This proved a costly mistake; she has been haunted by the taint of Chaos ever since.[1a]
Today she is a shadow of her former self. She wanders the streets of Turmgarten and sleeps in an alley under an elm tree. She wears tattered clothes and her face is sunken. She mutters to herself and avoids eye contact. She spends most of her days at the Wall of Remembrance, where she eats scraps of food and converses with Spites. If someone engages her in conversation here, she is surprisingly lucid. Eonir from the camp recently established near Altdorf check on Melinda's well-being from time to time, as it was she who originally discovered the stand of Lornalim trees in the Amber Hills where the camp was made.[1a]
