Maura the Murderer, also known as "Bloody Maura" and "Bitter-End Maura" was a mercenary general from Tilea.[1a]

Maura fancies himself as a noble prince of Tilea, taking delight in killing to achieve that rank. For many others, he was just a bloody mercenary at the head of a band of Dogs of War.[1a]

He wore a silver hound's-skull helmet, plumed with blue and white feathers just like those of his troops.[1a]

He was slain at the Battle of Maltane in a duel with the High Elf Gilead Lothain. During the fight he was decapitated by Lothain's blue-steel blade forged in Tor Anrok, but not before having hit Gilead in the face, ripping open a wound that would leave a scar for the rest of the High Elf's life.

Maura's Murderers[]

When describing Maura's Murderers, tales speak of a war-host of mercenaries maybe four hundred strong, all skilled swordsmen, archers and horsemen. They often appeared as a fluttering mass of blue and white feather-plumes.[1a]

Victory is all Maura would accept and this drive for excellence inspires his troops. This might seem strange for an army of mercenaries usually more interested in making a profit from a fight rather than ensuring a costly triumph, but Maura's Murderers were different.[1a]

They were with their general all the way, to hell and beyond. Maura drew to himself the best and the meanest and the most insane. He had an Ogre sergeant named Klork. Tales are told of Klork and of the leaders of his dog pack Hroncic and Fuentes.[1a]

After the Battle of Maltane Maura's Murderers left fully three-quarters of their troops dead on the fields and the slopes around the town.[1a]
