A cartographer consulting a map

"Markos: "I said that this map is out of date". -- Mannfred: "It’s Tilean. What did you expect? Cartography is one of the few arts that they do not claim to have invented."

Mannfred von Carstein to Markos von Carstein[2a]

Maps in the Old World are notoriously unreliable -- whether they are surveys of local trails, ambitious region wide guides, or the mainly fictional representations of the Old World itself. Yet the services of cartographers are still in great demand.[1a]

Elven Maps[]

No other race is said to be more travelled than the Elves. As traders and explorers, Elven ships have sailed the oceans of the world for thousands of years. As a result. travellers of all races eagerly seek Elven maps for their accuracy and detail. If you are lucky enough to find such an item, you will have an invaluable guide to what lies ahead.[3a]

Game History[]

Over the decades, numerous maps related to the Warhammer setting have been published. These are often presented to the reader as the work of cartographers belonging to the game universe, resulting in numerous errors and inconsistencies among many of them. This is particularly true when cartographers from the Old World are tasked with representing lands outside their continent.
