Manglrr Baneburrow was the ruling warlord of the Skaven's Clan Fester, and commander of its teeming hordes. He was also a Grey Lord, one of that group of Skaven who formed the earliest council of the Lords of Decay.
Baneburrow was old by the standards of the Skaven, kept alive through alchemy and warpstone-transfusions.[2c]
History[]
Council Convention[]
"Dwarf-things more problem than man-things!"
- —Manglrr Baneburrow at the Council Convention
In 1111 IC, the Council of Thirteen convened in the Shattered Tower of Skavenblight, ever scheming new ways to usurp the authority of the surface races and bring about the prophecied Great Ascendancy. With his warren deep in the former Dwarf Hold of Karak Azgal, Baneburrow's focus was not the surfaces races, but the Dwarf forces encroaching on his and his clan's home. He was largely absent from the clash between Clan Pestilens and Clan Verms, which concluded with Blight Tenscratch losing his seat on the council to Puskab Foulfur.[1a]
Service to Skrittar[]
"Man-things won't die-dead when sword-rats attack! Won't stop-die! Stab-slash much-much but man-things stand-live!"
- —Manglrr whines to Skrittar about the Undead
One year after the release of the Black Death upon the surface world in 1111 IC and the Grey Lord Skrittar's ritual to claim a chunk of warpstone from the moon of Morrslieb, Baneburrow was intimidated by the Grey Seer Seer Lord into joining his expedition to Sylvania in an attempt to recover this fortune in warpstone.[1a]
Manglrr and his underlings were chosen for their meekness, as Skrittar knew they would bend to his will due to his position as the Voice of the Horned Rat. With half the population of Sylvania dead from the Black Plague and the other half poisoned by the warpstone that had rained down upon their land, few could stand against Skrittar and his forces. Baneburrow was sent by Skrittar to enslave smaller Skaven clans in order to transport the warpstone from Sylvania as quickly as possible.[1a]
However, neither Baneburrow nor his clanrats or stormvermin were the fearsome warriors of Clan Rictus or Clan Mors and when it became clear the land was swarming with Undead, Skrittar was forced to treat with Nekrot of Clan Mordkin. This was because of Clan Fester's fear; even Baneburrow was a craven in the face of the Undead, something Nekrot chided him for.[1b]
During the battle against the infamous necromancer Vanhal of Sylvania and his Undead Dragons, Clan Fester would experience a significant thinning of its numbers. This made them easy prey for Vrask Bilebroth of Clan Pestilens, who took advantage of their weakness to add them to the Thrall Clans of the Pestilent Brotherhood. Baneburrow would abdicate his seat on the Council of Thirteen, allowing Bilebroth to sit in his place as a Lord of Decay.[3a]
