The Holy Grail of Bretonnia

The Lost Sons, also referred to as the Sons of Bretonnia, are mysterious and mystical knights of Bretonnia in direct service to the Lady of the Lake, the patron deity of the kingdom.

Role[]

Origins[]

Sometimes, young children in Bretonnia are seen to have strange and mystical powers. Before they reach puberty, almost all children with these magical talents will be visited by the Fay Enchantress. She takes them with her to the Otherworld, and they are mourned by their parents as if they were no longer living. Nevertheless, it is a great honour to be taken by the Enchantress, and it is believed the children go on to a better place, where their powers are used to serve the blessed Lady of the Lake herself.[1]

Whilst the female children often return to their homeland as holy damsels, the males remain as the Lady of the Lake's personal courtiers and servants, only riding out to war in the most dire of circumstances.[1]

Each knight is a stolen Son of Bretonnia grown to powerful maturity and regal stature. Garbed in archaic silver armour and wielding a variety of strange, mystical weapons, their pale skin has a slight glow and their eyes glitter with the glory of their goddess. Acting as martial counterparts to the Lady's chosen damsels, the only warriors that seem greater in Bretonnia are the revered grail knights themselves.[1]

The Court Beneath[]

The Lost Sons rode out beside Louen Leoncoeur upon his ascension to grail knight, aiding him in his fight against the Undead army of Myldeon. They burst from a mystical lake, riding upon bestial water-horses which snorted and grunted through dagger-like teeth. Their hair rippled, swirling as if underwater and their voices roared in unison, untold years of rage waiting to be unleashed.[1]

Their charge hit home with devastating effect. The unliving puppets of Myldeon were smashed into the mud with the force of the impact, decaying bodies practically splashing apart as the silver host thundered on. Scaled warbeasts snapped and kicked and thrashed, hooked flails tore limbs from joints, tridents and spears sent bodies flying through the air. The Lost Sons ground mercilessly through phalanx after phalanx of corpse-things with not a single loss. Only a few of their number eventually fell before the necromancer as he invoked his foul magic.[1]

Myldeon was ultimately slain by the future king of Bretonnia, allowing the Sons of Bretonnia to return once again to the Lady of the Lake's mystical lake.[1]
