Lord Savaric is lord of a small fief on the coast of Bordeleaux. He served his errantry on the waves and never spent a single night out of earshot of the ocean. He claims to have visited every port of the Old World, and whilst that is an exaggeration, he is extremely well travelled. He only settled down, he claims, because of old age.[1a]
He has not, in fact, slowed down at all by his advancing years, and this has started to worry him. He is past sixty and has the white hair and wrinkled features of an old man, but he still has all the vigour he had in his youth. Whilst many people would think this a blessing, Lord Savaric has seen too much to be so complacent: he is sure it is a curse. He was a pirate for some of his errantry years and committed deeds quite sufficient to deserve cursing.[1a]
He plans to go on a last quest, to find the source of the curse and undo it. If the clues he finds lead inland, he hires others to search for him.[1a]
