Lashiek, also spelled Lasheik, and known as the "City of Corsairs," is located on the west coast of Araby in the Bay of Corsairs and is known as the primary market for slaves in the Known World. Lashiek is a massive city, wealthier even than Copher or Al-Haikk.[6][7a][11a]

The legend of this terrible city has reached every corner of the globe, as it is said to be the place where all slaves taken in the mortal world eventually end up to be sold. It is a city of pirates, slavers and mercenaries, whose networks extend beyond any sea.[7a][11a]

The city is known for its huge port, where the worst scum and villains of the mortal world congregate.[6][7a]

History[]

The history of this city dates back millennia, as it was founded during the High Elves' occupation of the coast of Araby. The Men of this region soon gained all the knowledge that the Elves were willing to share before they abandoned the Old World for Ulthuan once more in the wake of the War of the Beard. Among the most important lore the Men of Lashiek absorbed from their former colonial masters was how to maintain control of the nearby seas. In Lashiek, the seafaring tradition has always been vital, as its large fleet of war dhows and corsairs are unmatched by any in the Known World.[2a][5a][7a][8a][9]

Yet if Lashiek is feared for anything, it is for its Great Slave Market. Thousands of captives arrive at its docks every day, to be sold in a gigantic open-air market, surrounded by silk tents and limitless luxuries. This influx of slaves and the wealth they generate attracts many criminals, smugglers and thieves to Lashiek's shores. This has made the laws in Lashiek very harsh, punishing the slightest crime with horrible mutilations. Similarly, the domains of the nobles of the city-state are guarded by a renowned body of guards, the Royal Harem Guard of Lashiek. The inhabitants of the city are happy to exchange fishing and trading for the piracy and slaving which has given the city its nickname of the "City of Corsairs."[2a][5a][7a][8a][9]

Yet despite all this, Lashiek is a largely peaceful city. Luxuries overflow from every corner, and the nobles' palaces proudly contemplate the crystalline waters of the Bay of Corsairs. The sultan of Lashiek inhabits the most immense of them all, and it is said that he owns the largest number of slaves in all of Araby. Other than Al-Haikk, Lashiek is the richest city in Araby, perhaps even the richest in the world. The High Elves still maintain a mercantile presence in the city.[4][5a][7a][8a]

The sultan of Lashiek has always remained faithful to the Crown of Araby. In -1147 IC, during the War of Death, the sultana of Lashiek, known as the Dowager Concubine, the ruler of the city in all but name, allied herself with the Vampire Lord Neferata, who had arrived in the city on her way to Sartosa. The Dowager Concubine gave her a northern slave, Ilsa, who spoke the laguage used at her destination. Together they tried to destroy Neferata's former enemy, her rival Vampire Lord W'soran. They faced each other in the Battle of the Widow, where both forces collided. W'soran was defeated and managed to flee to the sea.[10a]

Around 1150 IC, during the trade war between Grand Cathay, Ulthuan, and Araby, the sultan unleashed his corsairs, who terrorised the southern waters, enslaving as many as they could. This greatly enriched Lashiek's coffers.[2a][4]

At the time of the Great Crusade Against Araby, the city was in the hands of those loyal to Sultan Jaffar, who summoned corsairs for war. But the despotic wizard was defeated, and Lashiek was besieged by the Old Worlders and rebellious Arabyans. During the assault, the famous Duke of Aquitaine known in Araby as El Syf, disappeared. He reappeared the next morning, having received the Blood Kiss, later transforming into the Vampire Lord known as the Red Duke.[2a][4]

In recent times, the sultan of Lashiek sent the Al Muktar's Desert Dogs to the aid of the Great Sultan in his war against the Tomb King Settra.[3a]
