Kurgaz was an ancient Dwarf Master Runesmith who created the Anvils of Doom.[1a][2a][3a] He must not be confused with the founder of Karak Hirn.

Kurgaz is said to have been the most skilled of the old Runelords.[1a][2a]
In -2500 IC[3a] Kurgaz used the volcanic fire of Thunder Mountain (known as Karag Dron to the Dwarfs) to melt gromril in order to forge the Anvils of Doom. As they cooled, Kurgaz beat the Rune of Sorcery onto each gleaming anvil. No one knows how many were forged before the secret of this rune was lost.[1a][2a][3a]
Work at Karag Dron continued until the early War of Vengeance - in -1974 IC, the evil Dragon Tyrennus attacked the forges, and slew Kurgaz in a mighty battle that rent the mountain apart. During the devastation, the Dragon destroyed the forges and killed many Runesmiths. For this reason, nowadays the Anvils of Doom are ancient and invaluable heirlooms for the Dwarfs.[1a][2a][3a]
