"I am Kalada, I am the Eternal, beloved of Neferata. I am the true dark heart of this city. I am the black angel they pray to when the lights are out and old superstitions grip them. I am the unseen threat lurking in the corner of the eye. I am not some worm he can order around as the whim strikes him."
- —Kalada the Eternal.[1b]
Kalada, also called Kalada the Eternal, was the leader of the Lahmian Vampire coven in the Imperial city-state of Nuln during the Third Vampire War.[1a]
The Vampire Lord Mannfred von Carstein knew Kalada from another life and had believed her dead. Unlike many Lahmians, she had received the Blood Kiss in advanced age. When Mannfred came to negotiate an alliance between the Vampiric bloodlines of the Lahmians and the von Carsteins, Kalada rebuffed him, stating that the current state of affair in the Empire suited her and her mistress just fine. If Mannfred wanted the Lahmians' allegiance, he would need to prove that he was more than his sire and his brother who both had failed to achieve their vision.[1a]
Mannfred left Jon Skellan as his ambassador, yet Jerek von Carstein pretended to be his agent to infiltrate the Lahmian court. When Jerek sought to learn where Mannfred was, Kalada directed him to the depths of the undercity of Nuln, which connected to a long-forgotten part of the Ungdrin Ankor that had been repurposed by the Under-Empire of the Skaven.[1b] Kalada was then slain by Jerek, who devoured her heart and made it look like the deed had been done by Mannfred, preventing any chance of an alliance between the von Carstein and the Lahmian bloodlines.[1c]
