A junk is a type of ship used by the people of the Celestial Empire of Grand Cathay. The rivers of Cathay are the lifeblood of the empire. Day and night, junks sail up and across them, delivering people and cargo, be they spices, grains, or other exotic goods to the many ports of the Far East.[1a]
