Jade Lancers accompanying a Dragon-Blooded Shugenan Lord.[1]

The Jade Lancers are the standing heavy cavalry of the Grand Imperial Army of Grand Cathay, a hard-hitting, well-armoured force composed of horse-riding Jade Warriors. Jade Lancers are the mounted dquadrons of the Jade Warriors who are drawn from the Celestial Empire's great cities like their brethren.[2a]

Role[]

The wealthiest Cathayan cities like Fu-Chow or Wei-jin can afford to raise and support large contingents of Jade Lancers, though even the remote cities of the south and west can also usually muster at least a unit of these troops.[2a]

In addition to being a potent tool in the open field, Jade Lancers train to fight in the constricted streets of their cities, and are able to launch devastating charges through narrow alleyways, across bridges and through the tunnels that pierce the city walls.[2a]

Often, the Jade Lancers are part of scouting groups that head beyond the Great Bastion to break up and destroy the barbaric, Chaos-worshipping Northmen tribes in the region before they can gather their power and become a threat to the northern border of the Celestial Empire. Doing so is as dangerous as it is necessary.[1]

Slower but heavier and hardier than the standard horsemen used by other realms of the Known World, Jade Lancers will nevertheless deal extreme damage to infantry formations they crash into.[1]
