Hurcio was a giant of a man who belonged to the army of the mercenary General Justintine of Varenna. In the decisive battle against the Orcs and Goblins on the coast of Tilea, he defended the mercenary treasure chest with a huge club wearing only a lion skin. He slew countless Greenskins who stormed him, and none of the opponents reached their prey and survived.[1a]
Thus, Hurcio was the archetype of the paymaster's bodyguard, which in the mercenary armies of the Old World is traditionally formed from the most powerful muscular men, who usually have great physical strength and stubbornness but little brains and imagination.[1a]
Trivia[]
- Hurcio is likely a reference to the divine hero Heracles (or Hercules, his Roman counterpart). Hurcio's giant physique and him wearing the pelt of a slain lion mirrors Heracles' classical appearance in art and literature, the pelt being the hide of the legendary Nemian Lion.
