The Heldenhammer, flagship of the Grand Theogonist of the Cult of Sigmar
The Heldenhammer was once the personal flagship of the Grand Theogonist Volkmar the Grim. That the pirate lord Jaego Roth had both the courage and temerity to steal such an illustrious Imperial warship is a testament to his grim determination to rid the Galleon's Graveyard of Count Noctilus and his Undead Dreadfleet once and for all.[1a]
In the same year that Heldenhammer was stolen, the Grand Theogonist's personal ship became the Luitpold III. Mighty as it was, the armoured barge was no Heldenhammer, and Volkmar still feels a pang of loss for the grand old warship.[4a]
Appearance[]
The Heldenhammer is a true monster of a warship, boasting one-hundred and eighty cannons and nearly ten times as many crew. It is so magnificent in scale that it can hold a battalion of soldiers within its bilges alone. The Heldenhammer's aftcastle towers over the decks, and it is host to the Grand Templus, a massive edifice dedicated to the worship of Sigmar built to rival even the Great Temple of Sigmar in Altdorf in grandeur. The Grand Templus is so redolent with faith that it is said to be proof against evil magics, which is just as well given Captain Roth's intended destination.[2a]
As the flagship of the Grand Alliance of the Sartosan pirate lords that sought to hunt down the Dreadfleet, the Heldenhammer stands out from the rest of the Sartosan fleet. It resembles a three-masted galleon, but on an unprecedented scale -- the warship features hundreds of great cannons, entire batteries of siege mortars and murder holes for snipers. The warship is unmistakably of the Empire, fish-tailed mer-gryphons on the sails adding a naval touch.[1a]
Schematic of the Helderhammer
At its aft stands a grand temple, known as the Grand Templus, and it has a titanic figurehead of Sigmar mounted on its prow.[1a][3a] The titanic figurehead known as Sigmar's Wrath, a statue cast in blessed metal and larger than a wizard's tower, is no mere ornament. The statue itself is held in place by great steel chains, each link of which is the height of an Ogre. Sigmar's Wrath can be released from its upright position to come crashing down hammer-first upon an enemy vessel, impacting with a force of a twin tailed comet before being winched back into place using cantilevers and steam pistons. With such a weapon at his disposal, Captain Jaego Roth sought to bring final death to his Vampiric nemesis.[2a]
