Gunthar von Bildhofen was the brother of the famous war-hero Magnus the Pious, who became Emperor after the Great War against Chaos. Gunthar was known as a charismatic champion of the common man, who would have proved a popular and able Emperor had he succeeded to the throne, as everyone expected him to. Magnus had elevated him to the position of Grand Duke of Middenland, which was left vacant after the Great War Against Chaos. His legacy, however was forever stained by an event known as the Scandal of the Shroud.[1a]
