Gui de Gavaudan was a Bretonnian baron and knight who participated in the Great Crusade Against Araby. He later became one of the Vampire Thrall lieutenants of the Bretonnian Vampire Lord known as the Red Duke after the latter discovered that de Gavaudan had planned treachery against him.

History[]

While still a mortal, Gui de Gavaudan had fought during the Siege of Lashiek, killing hundreds. He was also the one who had cut down Mustafa Amar, the castellan of Magritta, before the Arabyan's wailing wives and children.[1a]

When the Duke of Aquitaine was found delirious and sick, believed to have suffered from poisoning by an Arabyan Deathstalker scorpion, de Gavaudan pleaded for him to be interred and left behind, with Aquitaine being administered by the crown.[1d] As the duke was married to one of the royarch's daughters, King Louis the Righteous named Gui de Gavaudan as the steward over Aquitaine for so long as the duke lay dying. Believing that his grandson would be named the new duke after the demise of the previous one, de Gavaudan attempted to finish the hero of the Arabyan Crusade off by hiring an assassin.[1a]

To his horror, de Gavaudan discovered the bloodless corpse of the assassin in the duke's sick bed when he came to see if the deed was done. He was slain by the resurgent Duke of Aquitaine, who would soon be known as the "Red Duke."[1a] The Red Duke transformed de Gavaudan into his slave as a Vampire Thrall, his body broken, tortured and deformed to suffer its agonies for eternity.[1b] Gavaudan followed his master in the war against Louis the Righteous and perished in battle against the Bretonnians at Mercal.[1c]

When the Red Duke returned, he reanimated and then punished his offspring for his failure by imprisoning him in a tomb, where no Undead would be able to leave or enter.[1d] The twisted Vampiric remnant of de Gavadaun was then consigned to the sun by two Bretonnian knights, who followed the trail of destruction left by the returned Blood Knight.[1e]
