Grandfather Reik is the patron deity of the River Reik, particularly in Reikland. Although he lacks a formal cult, shrines to him dot the length of the river. Merchants, bargees, and fishermen all leave Grandfather Reik offerings of beer, eels, and silver.[1a]

The official position of the Cult of Manann is that Grandfather Reik is an aspect of Manann. However, others whisper that he is in fact an aspect of Stromfels, the proscribed god of sharks, pirates, and wreckers. They say that "Reik" sounds suspiciously like "Wreck," and that an inordinate number of ships are lost on the river.[2a]

He is said to reside on the mythical Grandfather Reik's Isle.[2a]
