"And she did hear of what had happened, and she came unto Her, and she said, Because of what hath been done to thee: from this day forward I renounce my name, and I shall be called Fury."

Bellona Myrmidia, "Book of Fury"[1a]
Warhammer Cultist of Myrmidia

A Myrmidian priestess emulates the deeds of Fury, her patron deity.

Fury is the god of righteous anger, a minor deity adored in Tilea, Estalia and in the Reikland.[1a] Fury's sphere of influence also coincides with that of the God of Law known as Solkan, the god of vengeance, another ancient divinity especially adored in Tilea and Estalia.[3c]

Even though the Order of Fury of the Cult of Myrmidia is mostly comprised of women in Estalia and Tilea, in the Empire it is almost exclusively male.[1a] The order was little known within the Empire until a Myrmidian high priest, the Stirlander Janos Enescu, brought its teachings to Delberz. Inspired by his charismatic and fiery sermons, four temples sprang up in the Reikland.[3a]

History[]

Battle of the Abasko Mountains[]

When mortal, Myrmidia drew many heroes to her side, but none are more famous than the Shieldmaiden known as Fury. Her tale is recorded in the Bellona Myrmidia and is one full of horror, pain and betrayal. The events of the sad story result in a young girl brought low by misfortunes wreaked upon her by the servants of Chaos. Renouncing her name and swearing to claim revenge for all the dark deeds of the world, is a task she takes to with unparalleled passion and anger.[1a][3a]

Although it pained her, Myrmidia could not bring herself to stop the girl, for she intimately understood the source of Fury's rage. Instead, Myrmidia did what she had to: she used the girl on the battlefield. There, Fury slew and slew and slew, until eventually, once all her enemies were gone, she collapsed, weeping. Fury's last stand was in the Battle of the Abasko Mountains. There, her body was found by Myrmidia, surrounded by piles of dead Greenskins. The site is now protected by the Order of Fury's high temple.[1a][3a]

Fury’s popularity has grown particularly in the southern provinces of the Empire since the defeats inflicted on Ulrican forces in the war have led some to wonder if the cult of the White Wolf is in decline.[2a][2b]

Order of Fury[]

There are many sub-cults of Myrmidia in Tilea and Estalia, but only a few have become known in the Empire. The most popular among these is the aspect known simply as "Fury," which represents the righteous anger of Myrmidia at the handiwork of the wicked. Fury appears in art as one of Myrmidia's shield maidens, her face contorted with rage and a spear raised to strike. Fury appeals to warriors who give in to their anger once the battle begins, rather than taking a more cool, calculated approach to combat. A small sect of the Cult of Myrmidia confined mostly to the Reikland known as the Order of Fury is comprised of priests of Myrmidia that venerate Fury.[2a][2b]

Some Warrior Priests perform tactical roles, leading regiments at the behest of their generals will learn prayers from the Myrmidian Lore of the Captain to aid them in their endeavours. Others prefer to support the generals directly and memorise rites more appropriate for this role from the lore of Myrmidia the Commander. Within the Empire, it is only the Order of Fury that goes beyond these prayers, preferring rites that demonstrate the power and wrath of their patron goddess.[1c]

Myrmidian priests from the Order of Fury help organise cult meetings, spread its teachings, and lead its ceremonies. They are often sought as advisors by generals and mercenary commanders, particularly in Tilea and Estalia. In the Empire, only the Order of Fury goes beyond the common prayers dedicated to Myrmidia, preferring rites that demonstrate their unique view of the world in the aspect of Myrmidia the Wrathful.[3b][1b]

Prayers of Myrmidia Linked to Fury[]

  • Blazing Sun - Reading directly from the scriptures of Fury within the Bellona Myrmidia, the goddess Myrmidia answers one's prayers with blinding flames of retribution. Centred around the caster, erupts a wave of blinding light and holy flames that ignores armour and scorches all who are caught within its blast, be they friend or foe. Those that survive the purging flames can still be stunned by the sight of it, left to stagger around the battlefield half-blind or frantically attempting to put out any part of them that was set alight.[1c][1d][1b]
  • Dismay Foe - By wearing a copper mask of the Cult of Myrmidia the priest takes on the wrathful aspect of the goddess which greatly increases one's religious fervour and martial prowess. Any foes struck by a blow of a Myrmidian Cultist who has taken on her aspect are susceptible to terror and may flee from the battlefield rather than face her wrath.[1d]
  • Vengeful Wrath - Using a sample of the blood of a wronged woman, this prayer fills the priest with unbridled fury and hatred which blinds them to all reason.[1f] This sends the cultist into a frenzy where they will strike their foes, again and again, beating them into submission and tearing across the battlefield with the stamina and force akin to the war goddess herself. While in this state the cultist will charge at any and all enemies who draw near, but in their bloodlust, they lose the ability to flee the battle and properly coordinate with their fellow warriors.[1d][1e]
  • Blessings of Fury - The priest's passionate prayers fill a single character with righteous fury, allowing one missed close combat hit to be re-rolled.[1b]
  • Fury's Call - The priest'spassionate prayers instill your allies with a fervent hatred of their enemies. All allies within range may re-roll their first missed attack each round.[1d]
