"Though we have wandered far to this land, called the New World by the hairy barbarians, the usurper humans, we have not forgotten the spires of Anlec and our forests of pale grey trees. For this place was not always our home."

—Furion of Clar Karond.[1a]

Furion of Clar Karond was one of the earliest followers of Malekith and remains one of the last living Sorcerers.

History[]

Furion was born in old Nagarythe and became a supporter of Malekith during the Sundering. His memoirs preserve the point of view of the rebels that would become the druchii, according to whom Ulthuan was spiralling into decadence under Bel Shanaar, resisted only by the strength of the people of Nagarythe.[1a] As the jealous princes of the other kingdoms sought to slander Nagarythe, they accused Lady Morathi of treason. Prince Malekith, seeking to avoid war, took control of the investigations into the Cult of Pleasure, revealing many Princes as traitors. When Malekith summoned the princes to the Shrine of Asuryan, he revealed to Bel Shanaar that his incompetence would be the original reason for the downfall of the elves. Rather than face the shame of his failure, Bel Shanaar committed suicide. The other princes refused to believe Malekith's testimony, accused him of having poisoned the king and even attacking him on holy ground. Their perfidity even went so far that they cursed the Flame of Asuryan to reject Malekith. Under the ruthless tyrant Imrik, known as Caledor, they invaded Nagarythe and forced them to defend themselves. Many who saw the righteousness of Malekith's cause joined him, but the hordes of the usurper outnumbered them and after seven great battles that ended in Malekith's victory, he was defeated through treachery at the Marshes of Maledor.[1b]

Furion was one of the sorcerers present when the ritual to unravel the Great Vortex was attempted. According to him, the ritual would have worked and would have enslaved the daemons to the will of Malekith, but treachery allowed the wizards of Hoeth to weave a counterstrike beforehand, unleashing a tidal wave that sank Nagarythe and killed thousands of innocents.[1c]

Furion remained at the side of his king, fighting in the Longest War against the rebellious subjects of Malekith numerous times, for example participating in the destruction of Morvael's ill fated expedition to Naggaroth.[1e] He saw the current era as a time of consolidation that would result in final victory once the next great Chaos incursion would come.[1f]

He very likely authored the Tome of Furion. He also created the Crown of Black Iron, a magical artefact able to absorb Dark magic creating a Daemonic shadow to protect the wearer from harm.[1d]
