The Five Graces are a group of minor Classical goddesses who personify beauty and grace.[1a]
Vast quantities of marble were brought down from quarries in the Apuccini Mountains as well as the exotic pink-veined trantine for which the city of Trantio is famous. This stone was used for Grottio's huge sculpture The Five Graces which adorns the piazza in Verezzo.[1a]
Trivia[]
Warhammer lore does not specify whether Scripsisti, Clio or Fury are part of the Five Graces.[1a]
The Five Graces are a reference to the Three Graces of Greek mythology. The Charites (Ancient Greek: Χάριτες), singular Charis (Χάρις), also called the Graces, are goddesses who personify beauty and grace. According to the ancient Greek poet Hesiod, the Charites were named Aglaea, Euphrosyne, and Thalia, who were the daughters of Zeus and Eurynome, the daughter of the Titan Oceanus.
In other accounts, the Graces' names, number and parentage varied. In Roman mythology they were known as the Gratiae. Hesiod has Aglaea as the wife of Hephaestus, the god of smiths, and in the Iliad Hera, the queen of the Olympian gods, promised to give a Charis named Pasithea to Hypnos as a bride. Otherwise they have view stories of their own and are usually described as attending various more important gods and goddesses, especially Aphrodite, the goddess of love and beauty.
In Roman and later art, the three Charites are generally depicted nude in an interlaced group, but during the Archaic and Classical periods of Ancient Greece, they were typically depicted as fully clothed, and in a line, with dance poses.
