The Feast of Deliverance is a great Elven festival that celebrates the return of spring and the saving of Aenarion's children from the forces of Chaos by the Treeman Oakheart, as well as their return from the heart of the forest. Without his intervention, Yvraine would not have survived, and thus, there would be no Everqueen, and without Morelion, there would be no Line of Aenarion. So the people of Ulthuan hang green paper lanterns from outside their windows or verandas, and place along the streets carved statues depicting a friendly cross-between an elf and a massive oak tree, in veneration of the heroic Treeman.[1a]
"Lantern Parties" are held by nobles on this occasion, as well as those wealthy enough to host such events.[1c] At the Emeraldsea Palace, in addition to hanging green paper lanterns atop trees, twigs of oak and wreathes of oak leaves are placed over doorways. Trestle tables are placed in the courtyard. Carved wooden statues of treemen guard every entrance.[1b] Floating spheres of spell-woven light illuminate the palace's Great Hall. An orchestra of the finest musicians played on a raised dais at one end of the room. Huge fans swirled in the high ceiling propelled by unseen magic. Hundreds of beautifully garbed and noble-looking elves crowded the room. They stood at the edge of the chamber in the shadow of alcoves housing enormous statues or round the tables on which a buffet of the finest elven viands lay. They chatted in dark corners or drank wine from carved crystal goblets or danced around the centre of the floor, performing the steps of the vast intricate ritual quadrilles demanded of this sort of social gathering.[1c]
The Night of Rejoicing is the traditional night when balls and parties are given, alongside offerings being made in temples.[1b]
